On June 27th, 2003 the company Gerd Rodermund GmbH & Co. KG with its employees, associates, and members of the municipal council of the town Mahlberg was able to celebrate the nowadays rarely appearing jubilee with a Spanish evening.

It was on January 1st, 1953 when the “Mahlberger Blumenfabrik Gebrüder Rodermund” officially started its work. Already on February 17th, 1953 the registration took place as “Gerd Rodermund KG GEROMA”. Mr. Gerd Rodermund was the founder of the company.

Already at that time window-dressing items as well as artificial leaves made of paper, paraffin, and wire were being produced.

However, one can trace back the Rodermund production right to the year 1880. At that time the production of artificial leaves was started in Langburkersdorf/Neustadt which is in Saxony, East of Germany.

Around the turn of the century Gerd Rodermund’s grandfather had bought this company and before World War I he already employed approx. 120 people.

In 1947 Gerd Rodermund joined his parents’ enterprise. But as Gerd Rodermund saw no possibilities in developing the medium-sized family business situated in an area ruled by the Soviets he decided to remove the business to the Western parts of Germany.

It was the community Mahlberg in which the company settled due to a recommendation of the district president in Freiburg. He for his part, made great efforts in establishing new enterprises in the area around the town Lahr as here the long-established cigar-industries could not offer jobs any longer. Gerd Rodermund found a vacant cigar-factory – the todays location – Schmiedeweg 6.

Building up the company was very difficult as Rodermund was not allowed to bring any machines etc. from the East-zone to Mahlberg. Together with his father Wilhelm and his brother Heinrich he engaged and trained formerly and now unemployed cigar-makers to skilled workers.

Already after 2 years he started with the production of Christmas tree decoration by producing garlands. Apart from that the tinsel production begun. Also due to considerable exports to the USA Rodermund could achieve good results and turnovers.

In 1968 Gerd Rodermund founded another company in Lahr “Brillant Plastik”. 1974 this business also moved to Mahlberg. This enterprise was specialized in metallizing and lacquering PVC-foils that were used for the production of garlands and tinsel. The company Gerd Rodermund KG was the main purchaser.

Already in the 70s Gerd Rodermund imported artificial Christmas trees from Taiwan and Hongkong and finally sold them to large department stores.

In 1977 the company owned an area of 15.000 qm, had more than 100 employees and another 100 outworkers.

In 1978 the company was changed into Gerd Rodermund GmbH & Co. KG.

On November 1st, 1979 Mr. Georg Bosch joined as another associate the business.

In July 1981 Gerd Rodermund died.

Since the end of 1981 Georg Bosch, Ursula Rodermund (widow of Gerd Rodermund), and Dr. Helmut Berkhemer are the three associates of the company.

In 1982 “Brillant Plastik” was sold to the company Renker Düren.

Since 1982 the company continuously grew. Two new warehouses with room for 8,000 pallets were being built in 1983 and 1987.

In 1991 a new shed of another 1,000 qm for commissioning was being erected.

In 1992 the outlet-shop was opened. In the meantime it takes up approx. 200 qm and is opened every Wednesday afternoon. Some weeks before Christmas it is also opened on Saturday mornings.

A new exhibition hall of more than 800 qm, together with a new representative entrance hall were being built in 1995.

In 1996 the subsidiary Geroma Danubia Kft. was founded in Hungary. Here all labour intensive works are carried out for the parent company.

Since 1999 the company Gerd Rodermund GmbH & Co. KG has been renting another approx. 5,000 qm additional production and storage facilities in the town Lahr.

In the year 2000 Mr. Martin Bosch, Georg Bosch’s son, joined the business.

In the same year another new shed for commissioning works of 2,000 qm was being built for the fitting of ordered shop-displays.

Today the entire estate takes up more than 25,000 qm, the company employs 140 persons and workers and approx. another 50 seasonal workers.

The company Gerd Rodermund GmbH & Co. KG is also very busy in training young school graduates for various professions such as office workers, MBA / masters of business administration, specialists in data processing, graphic designers, store supervisors and storemen/-women, engineering mechanics a.s.o..

The company Gerd Rodermund GmbH & Co. KG is the supplier for any decoration item, no matter for which season and which subject.

The line of business “seasonal items” includes a range of products of more than 5,000 items from all over the world. Especially for Christmas, Spring / Easter, Autumn and Halloween the company offers an entire assortment always according to the actual trends.

Moreover the company also offers additional services such as delivery of already priced items, delivery of the items placed in various attractive shop-displays as well as especially for this kind of merchandise full-service-systems that differ from customer to customer.

Among the company’s customers one finds all modern sales forms such as departments and chain stores, mail-order companies, C&C-businesses, do-it-yourself-markets, gardening centres as well as supermarkets and more.
